Evenly Space Names in a List
I have a list of 6 names (text) that I want to evenly space. I set the the position of the top text and bottom text and want to space the other four evenly between them vertically. How do I do this without using the grid?

I would use Draw Text Within A Vector Box. Draw a rectangle, then it has lots of options for spacing.

Use the Align Selected Objects tool. Under Space Selection click the vertical spacing icon (the right one) and the spacing between the words will be equalised based on the position of the top and bottom ones.

Adrian, this method doesn't work for me. Can you explain? I tried grouping the top and bottom text together first, then window selecting the rest of the text and when I tried to center vertically, it just stacked them on top of each other...Adrian wrote:Use the Align Selected Objects tool. Re: Evenly Space Names in a List
It's not the center vertically icon. It's the vertical spacing icon in the Space Selection section. You don't need to group anything but each line of text must be a piece of text on its own. You can right click on selected text and choose Break Text block into lines if it's all one block.dah79 wrote:Adrian, this method doesn't work for me. Can you explain? Re: Evenly Space Names in a List
Thanks Adrian. I never use the alignment option under Transform Objects, so I never saw that space selection tool. Cool!
Wonder why that doesn't show up under the Align Objects menu even when 'show common tools on drawing tab' is checked??

Re: Evenly Space Names in a List
Probably a space thing. For the lowest supported resolutions there isn't a lot of real estate on the tab and that's probably the least used (for most) option of the alignment tools. I use it a great deal though.

Thanks Adrian. I thought that function was there I just could not find it. In fact. I think I asked this same question a few years ago, lol.
That icon should really be moved down to the Align Objects area!

Re: Evenly Space Names in a List
Another way would be to type and position the first name then use the linear array tool set for 1 column and 6 rows and set the vertical spacing. Edit each name.
