How much weight is going to be held by the magnets or will it just be used to hold location markers?

You will probably need more than single ply veneer on top of the metal. Keep in mind that you will have 3 different materials with three different rates of expansion/contraction - extreme heat and cold as well as moisture variations may cause significant problems.

You could place the peel and stick veneer on the metal as mentioned previously, then laminate your veneer on top of the base veneer.

Contact cement is my suggestion. I don't like using a roller. A good brush, but for the past 10 years I've used a sprayer ( in a business situation ).
