form tools

Post by COWBOY1296 »

I have found that if I take a picture of the profile of a form tool it is easy to trace once that picture is imported and sized so that you can add it to your tool data base. But that said unless the happy hours had dulled my hearing while in Denver, do the manufacturers of these tools give you a downloadable profile of their tool. I thought that I head that in Denver.

Some do and some do it. But I have found that if you call and ask them to send it as an .DXF they seem to do it.

Magnate.org has most of their bit profiles in a .dxf file on their website but it's a little hard to find.

Tools Today also has their bit profiles (Amana) as a .tool file so I think you have to import the whole thing so be careful.

After importing the .dxf file I use the bit profiles from Magnate by just finding the bit in the file, divide it in half using node edit and use the right half to create the bit. So far, the scale has been right on.
