Resizing the Tool path window after pinning in Aspire 9.5

Post by Terry Williams »

Hi,

I have searched the forum and Vectric training video's and can't seem to find any way to resize the Tool Paths Window in Aspire 9.5.

Some of my tool paths have long descriptive names - this causes a problem when trying check and un-check the tool path visibility checkbox.

After checking the box, the view automatically scrolls to the right hiding the check box so I have to scroll to the left if I want to check or un-check another box.

This is very tedious if you have a lot of tool paths with long names -in fact, it's driving me nuts right now!

Is there a way to resize the tool path window to prevent the check boxes from scrolling out of view?

Thanks!

Terry

It can't be made any wider than it already is.

Do you really need to have such long names? Could you use the toolpath notes instead and display them in the control software via the PP?

same problem here, and names are generally short....But DO like adding an abbreviation of the bit used for when I pull up the folder to cut.
Quite often duplicate toolpaths to try different strategies and getting 3D details right, and even adding 3inch to a TBN will make me have to scroll to checkmarks.
Even if it would default to the checkmark side, it would be a Big help here.

Might be controversial here but I've never seen the need for anything in the toolpath name other than what it's for. The tool information is already part of the toolpath as are the depths etc.

I use the toolpath names to logically group toolpaths when I create the .tap files (Bit selection etc.).

I could probably come up with some abbreviated notation that would occupy less space, but who want's to pull out their secret decoder ring just to figure out what all the codes mean.

I agree with Scott - since users interact with the checkbox widget, the checkbox should always be available.

I guess this an issue for the development team.

A relatively small change that would positively impact at least 2 customers!

Ok, maybe it's because I use manual tool changing routines with my post processor and that uses tool numbers to automatically group the toolpaths when saving I've never had the need.

In previous versions it didn't scroll to the end like that but I expect they changed it because someone asked them to do it that way. Can't please all the people all the time. :)

You can double click the toolpath list header (one labelled 'Toolpaths' or 'Toolpaths - Top / Bottom' for two sided). This will pop up a resizable modal-less window that you can place anywhere you like containing just the toolpath list. It could be useful for long toolpath lists and/or long toolpath names.

Cheers

Hi Mohamed,

I tried that, but the window is only re-sizable in the vertical direction - it's fixed width, so that won't help either.

I'm using Version 9.5 - I cant remember how it worked in previous versions.

Thanks!

It's resizable in both directions if you follow Mohameds steps. He's not talking about undocking the toolpath tab. Double click on the actual text that says Toolpath at the top of the toolpath list not at the top of the tab itself and you'll get a brand new, completely resizable window.

I just tried the double click in the header option and I was able to resize either way. I have the latest version of Aspire....joe

You guys are my new heroes!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

I was clicking on on the wrong "Toolpaths"

I can't tell you how happy this makes me!

That was one of the best Christmas gifts I've ever received.

I am just getting back into CNC Router work after a 5 year hiatus - Moved to Naples Florida 5 years ago and have just recently set up shop again, so I'm re-learning Aspire coming from version 4 to 9.5.

I'm working on combining a bunch of small similar parts on a single 4x8 sheet and some of them have 12 toolpaths associated with them, so I've been really frustrated with this one little irritating issue and thanks to you guys and this forum, I won't have to deal with that ever again.

Hope I can return the favor some day.

Thanks again,

Terry

Does this work the same way for V-Carve pro ver.9.512. I can double click on the tool paths window and move entire the tool path window to another monitor (have 2 monitor setup) and I can size it up & down but not left to right the arrows show up but will not let me move the box. I can then double click on the tool paths box and it will pin back to the main V-Carve window. No big deal for me but would be nice to have just in case for long tool path names in the future.

Win 10

V-Carve 9.512 just upgraded from 8.5
