Re: Tangent between two circles
Excellent tip on the eclipse/tangent method. I don't recall attempting to snap a tangent line to an ellipse during testing. Now if/when I fail, you have provided a solution. Thanks!
Good story about the students' comments. I used to use other programs for most of my vector drawing, then import into the Vectric software. But, I rarely find the need or desire to do that anymore - especially now with the accurate and convenient drawing/snapping features in version 9.

Re: Tangent between two circles
I realize that this is an old topic but so am I, anyway, I'm running Aspire v10.507 and I cannot draw a line tangent to two circles. I click on the big circle, hover over the small circle and type "T". The line snaps tangent to the small circle but remains where I clicked on the large circle. Shouldn't the line snap tangent to both circles using this method? Hope everyone is staying healthy this crazy year of 2020.mtylerfl wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 1:27 amDrawing tangents between two circles is SUPER easy with version 9 software!
1) Draw your circles
2) Select the polyline tool and click pretty much anywhere on the first circle vector
3) Move your mouse to the edge of the second circle and press the letter "t" while hovering (do NOT left-click, unless you want to draw more vectors from there, otherwise right-click or press spacebar to get out of vector drawing mode)
Like magic, the line is perfectly tangent between the two circles
(No need for the Tangent gadget nor offsetting from centers anymore, no "messy" trimming, etc)

I just tried this and have exactly your same problem on 10.507 Aspire.

Re: Tangent between two circles
Yes, definitely seems to be an issue with the latest versions. It works as expected in v9.

Re: Tangent between two circles
Thank you gentlemen, I thought I was doing everything right according to the manual but it wasn't working the way I expected.

It works in version 10.018 too. Guess it "got broken" at some point in the newer versions. The current User Manual still describes the procedure as the same, so that feature/key shortcut was not intentionally disabled, as far as I can tell.

Yes Michael, I came to the same conclusion. Will Vectric pick up on this discussion or should I notify them some other way? It's really a useful feature.

Re: Tangent between two circles
This should have been fixed in version 10.508 shortly after it was reported. Please update and let us know if any issues remain.

It appears to be working in 10.512 on my machine.

Re: Tangent between two circles
Had 10.508 been released or it had been included in any of the Release Notes from 10.509 which was released, maybe we would have known it was fixed, Vectric Staff.
I don't known about anybody else but when you skip versions in release notes I assume you rolled all changes from skipped versions into the next released version. Apparently not.
I know what happens when you assume, so it is ultimately my fault. When I saw the posted YouTube work around in the forum I assumed it was still broken. It's not like I do tangents to circles everyday.
Better communications on what's been fixed and a running list of known issues being worked would help. Think of the time people are wasting trying to make a feature work that has a known issue which doesn't allow it to work. I can only speak for myself, but when a feature doesn't work my first thought is what am I doing wrong, NOT software bug. You guys make great software, please communicate better.
