Foam board equivalent in Australia
Foam board equivalent in Australia
We all now know about Vegemite sandwiches verses peanut butter ones but could somebody tell a newby what the Aussie equivalent (and where to get it,) to American foam board is for making exterior signs. I can't seem to find anything here that isn't polystyrene. Thanks to all in anticipation. Peter.

Re: Topographic Maps
Try changing your search terms, in the uk it is also known as Foamex or Forrex which are actually trade names. I tried a very quick search adding the word Australia & got this link back, might be a starting point for you.
By the way you would really be better starting a new thread with this question rather than tagging it onto an existing one

Re: Foam board equivalent in Australia
Thank you Martin for trying to find it on Aussie websites. Foamex seems to make building polystyrene insulating sheets here, that I believe would be way to soft, and terrible to machine as the 'dust' ( for a better word ) flys everywhere and sticks to everything with static electricity.. I believe Foamboard is a polyurethane not a polystyrene..
I will try to repost my question on this forum (if I can work out how to start a new thread) Must be an age thing and not only associated to my eyes.. many thanks. Peter.

Help please Martin. How do I post a new thread on this forum. Is there a secret button I can't see from down under. P.

I have split this into a separate topic with an appropriate title so you don't need to start a new one.

Re: Foam board equivalent in Australia
I think you are really trying to find
High Density Urethane
There are lots of brand names for the material, but the brands may not exist in OZ.
Try searching - High Density Urethane, or HDU
http://www.crodie.com.au/
http://www.multipanel.com.au/product-info/faq.html
http://www.aus-styrene.com.au/polyurethane_foam.html

Try searching for PVC foam board & see what you get
Found this link
http://www.zj-byzs.com/products/?gclid= ... GwodDFAIZw
This looks like it could be a better starting point for you
https://www.australiansheettraders.com.au/products
Funny enough I don't really use the stuff myself, I generally use aluminium composite for most of what I do

Re: Foam board equivalent in Australia
Thank you all for your suggestions, from them I found Multipanel have a local distributor but with a 8 x 4 x 1 inch sheet costing $400 plus $60 to ship it up from Melbourne I may have to rethink my ideas. As a newby to this game I thought it easier to learn the software ( magnificent as it is) and also the capabilities of my home made machine using foam rather than lumps of Aussie hardwood..
P.s I still can't see how to post a new thread on this site. Am I thick or what?

What you may want to try is the pink or blue Dow insulation foam

I've read about people using that on either this forum or somewhere else on the internet but never tried it myself, does it machine OK in your experience?fixtureman wrote:What you may want to try is the pink or blue Dow insulation foam

Re: Foam board equivalent in Australia
I made a house number sign for my shop in 2013 with pink insulation foam. I painted it with Ban Moore exterior paint. It still looks like new.
NEED to use SHARP cutters or it tears and gets serious fuzzies.
