Possible to rotate about a point?

Post by mike.davison »

While working on a project this weekend I found I wanted to rotate a group of selected vectors around a point that was not the center point of that selection group. I wanted to rotate all the selected vectors around the center of a circle that was not the center of all the selected vectors. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks, Mike

When you select the rotate icon (3rd under "transform objects"), it gives you the option to "Use coordinates". Enter the coordinates of the circles center in the X, Y boxes.
Or you can drag the little 'double circle' to any location you want to be the pivot point.

Thanks! I appreciate the help. I did not noticed that little double circle could be moved. Doh!

Another way to do this is to draw a circle around everything you want to rotate with its center where you want the center of rotation. Then select the center along with the rest of the vectors.

This is what I did before VCarve Pro added the double circle to the rotate function. The method can also be used to rotate after clicking a second time on the selection and grabbing one of the rotate arrows at a corner.
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.

Ah, sure, that makes sense. Wish I would have thought of it! Thanks.

The rotate option is available from both the drawing and modeling menus under 'Transform Objects'.
