radius outside edge of model

Post by brockadeau »

I am trying to carve a stool seat. I have the compnenet pretty much the way I want it, but I want the outside to raduis down to soften the outside edge. Is there an easy way to do this?

Probably the easiest is to use a roundover bit in a router table.

you could do it by making the radius part of the sweep vector.

Thanks Jeff--My seat is 3d. Can I follow a contour with this, or can I project this onto a 3d image somehow? The contour is created with "create shape with vectors". thanks--Jack

Jack,

The gadget is basically only works on contours/vectors. So I believe it will work for you. Very simple to try and you can always delete the gadget if it doesn't do the job. Let me know if it works for you.

Jeff-- It does not follow the 3d contorus of the outside edge. Seems to me I used to be able to offset the outside vectors beyond tje 3d carving and it would raduis down to a lower point during the create finsih toolpath function. Don't remember how to do it exactly.

If you want to expand the 3D toolpathing past the edge of the model it's the Boundary Offset within the Machining Limit Boundary section of the 3D toolpath that you need to set.
