Ontario Canada-user group get together-Any interest?

Post by John Murphy »

Hello.

I have received some interest in another group meeting here in Guelph.

It didn't seem like there was much interest in meeting last fall, so I'm proposing a get together in once the weather has warmed up a bit.

All are welcome, and you do not have to be a Vectric user, or have a specific type of machine. I would be asking some volunteers to put on a brief presentation of some of the participants. There would also be a show and tell period for members projects. This would be simply fielding questions about the project, and discussion of same.

Please respond to this post if you are interested, and we can propose some dates.

All our friends to the south are very welcome to attend, as well as those who may be considering purchasing one of Vectric's products.

John

would love to see a canadian event large enough to attract attendees from accross canada and beyond. I could justify travelling to ontario for a larger multiday event but it would be a long drive for a coffee meeting and casual get together.

Hi Gerald.

I wish I could host an event like that, but it is beyond my capability. We have met here a few times, and had some great discussions. the meeting is very informal, and we kind of let the topics evolve by themselves. I hope to approach a few of the past participants, to see if they would do brief presentations on a subject of their choice.

I think everyone enjoys the Q&A format, and I think we'll carry that on as well. If anyone has a topic they wish to present, or learn about, please let me know. No matter what skill level you have, or the machine, there is always new ways to approach our work.

Please do not be shy about asking questions.

John

Hey John. I would be interested in attending. Wish we could get something like meets in the USA going up here. I did enjoy the previous ones you hosted. Keep me informed. I would be happy to display some Precise and Onsrud bits for people to see.

Hi John,

I hear you and I wasn't suggesting that you personally should organize an event, just that a larger Canadian event would be awesome. Maybe at some point we will have a VECTRIC sponsored annual meeting in Canada which would be great or for me even a SHOPBOT event would work as I have a SHOPBOT table and most shopbotters are using ASPIRE products. You never know though I might do a 5 day road trip for a casual one day affair at your shop afterall its only a 2200km (one way) drive........... should be easy 2days in the van. I have done it twice on motorcycle (to newfoundland) and it was some 15K round trip last time.

cheers
gerald

John, I too could be interested but not just for an afternoon event.
If, say, it was all day Saturday & perhaps Sunday until 2 or something like that, it could be worth my fighting traffic for 8 hours. I can probably find something to share, too.

Hi Rodger.

I'm with on that. I don't know if I'd like the drive either, and with the price of fuel, it's an expensive drive.

At this point, I'm just looking at a Saturday event. I would to see you again, but I understand your position.

John, it's just the drive across Toronto I hate. Gas ain't that expensive. I go to McGrews every year & that's just over 1000 miles each way, but the difference is there are no major cities to fight your way through.
If it's an all day event, that might be OK.

What day and month were you talking about. I live up on the north shore . North of the manitoulin island It takes me 8 to 9 hours to get there and if it is just a couple of hours It would be a long way to go. If it is the weekend sat and sun It might be worth it. And I would hope for end of may or you know later in the spring. When it starts to warm up then I could take my bike down.

Could this perhaps be combined with a day or so with Jamie Oxenham? For those not aware of Jamie, he's an Aspire specialist who is also a beta tester for Vectric - and he lives in Ontario. There would obviously be an additional cost involved but I'd personally be more than willing to pay to attend anything he presents. He designs props for the film, television and promotional media industries along with other stuff. Just a thought that these could be tied together, assuming it suited both John and Jamie of course. Otherwise, it's about two hours drive between Guelph (John's) and little Britain/Kawartha Lakes (Jamie's) if done separately.
