Epicycloid Gadget

Post by Ryan Patterson »

This gadget is more for fun, it creates a polar cycloid. It is almost like a spirograph but a little simpler. Here is a link that explains a cycloid and is where I got the equation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycloid . The only type of toolpath I can see for this would be Profile on the line.
To use first select vectors to base the size they can be of any size or shape. The gadget uses the bounding box size to determine the width and height of the Epicycloid shape.

Cool gadget, Ryan - brings back memories! Think I'll try it for some soapstone trivets!

Dan,
It sounds like some of the files are in an incorrect location. There are a total of 3 files for this gadget Epicycloid.VectricGadget , Epicycloid.htm and Epicycloid.PNG. The Epicycloid.VectricGadget file should be located in the Gadgets folder the other two files should be in a folder within the Gadgets named Epicycloid. I hope this helps

Thank You so very much for this gadget. It is so cool. Trivits as Ron mentioned will be great.
The different border or corner possibilities are limitless. Thanks again ! :P

Will these Gadgets work with V-Carve, or only Aspire?

They work with both. Ryan has posted a link in the VCarve forum as well.

I came across this gadget some time ago and thought it might be useful. I needed it for a project but found out that it is in older gadget format. I managed to extract and update the code so that it will run under the current gadget SDK (mostly sorting out global and local variables).

If Ryan gives his assent I can post that updated version here.
