Hi,
I am doing a project that will require six fairly large veneer panels.
What are members recommendations as to the best method of holding the veneer whilst cutting and once profiled what is the best method of transferring the veneer to the work piece..
I am a bit nervous that the panels will fall apart on me,
Soapy

You are going to need a vacuum table.
Why don't you apply the veneer to the substrate and cut them together?

I have seen veneer sandwiched between two board and cut quite accurately, although I have not tried it...

I've cut some stuck down on a scrap of MDF that was clamped to a t-track bed. Used photo mount adhesive, which is pretty weak but lasted long enough to cut with a drag knife. Sprayed the photo mount on the MDF not the veneer, and there wasn't much of it on the veneer when it was peeled off. Paper backed Flexwood veneer it was.

Thickness, wood specie & what/how you intend to cut will all play a part. There are a lot of different factors to take into account, as ohiolyons has mentioned a vacuum table is generally used for large veneer pieces. I have sometimes used double-sided mounting films that I have & use as a signmaker. Experimented with various types of glue. I would definitely experiment a bit before taking on a large project if you haven't done much work with veneer

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your very helpful replies.
I am afraid a Vacume table may be a little out of my price league.
However, experimenting with the sandwich idea and various adhesives is good food for thought.
Thanks Soapy
