Re: collapsible basket
Generally they are done with a scrollsaw as you need a very small kerf for them to work properly. The same spiral cut method will work on a CNC but obviously you need the bit to be as small in diameter as you can get away with.

Re: collapsible basket
Also I'm pretty sure collapsible baskets are usually cut with a small angle so the basket will jam together when open. Not sure how that would be done on a 3-axis CNC.

Re: collapsible basket
The ones that I have are supported by the handle when its rotated to the open position so that type is a straight cut.

Yes, I understand that generally a scroll saw is used. I am wondering if it can be done with a cnc. If so, has anyone tried it and be willing to share how they did it. I was thinking of using a 1/8 end mill.
Re: collapsible basket
A friend of mine gave me one that was done on a scroll saw. It works just as you say. I guess it is just going to be a trial run to see if I can get it to work.

Re: collapsible basket
You can do it but not from a single piece of wood.
Cut each level using a V-carve bit so the inner and outer edges are angled. Just make the next level's outer edge a fraction smaller than the upper level inner edge.
You get the same result but not from a single piece of wood and not a spiral cut.

Not a collapsible basket, but a link to plans for a folding coffee cup carrier that might interest someone.

That is really nice. Did you design it?

.
Yes. It took about 5 iterations to get it right.
