Drafting sides of model.

Post by Zac_Topside »

Hey all,

I'm making molds for some thermoforming maps and I need to add a angle to the sides as to not stretch the plastic too much. When I test out Aspire's draft angle setting, it seems to balloon out the edges instead of just doing a straight draft. Is there a way to fix it, or is that inherent in the program? I uploaded a screenshot of doing the angle in blender, it's just that most of my maps are a few gigs in size and blender chokes when trying to edit the mesh like this.

I'd recommend sending this to support@vectric.com so they can look into it.

It appears to be the way the algorithm makes draft, no options.

I noticed you have very high sides on your model is there any way to shorten and minimize the roundness?

I did about a week ago, I've yet to receive a response though.

Yeah that was my fear when I noticed the way the algorithm works. I can always shorten it, but it doesn't minimize the roundness up at the top where I need it the most.

You my want to check your email spam folder in case their response was re-directed.

Also, a lot of the staff was traveling last week for the conference in San Diego.

Hi Zac,

I have checked our Records but I am afraid that no email from your email address appears to have been sent to support@vectric.com in the last couple of years.

I have reached out to you via the support desk so please check your inbox and Spam folder for a new email from the Vectric Support team.

This is the current and expected behaviour for the Drafting as well when working on a part like this.

Many thanks

Just wanting to update this post with some new information. I ended up finding a way to draft just the edges of the models to the base. You basically need to clip a fraction of the model and then use that outer model to draft to the base.

What I would love to know is if there would be an option down the road to Draft from the model to a vector versus a constant angle. Since at the moment the draft will go at 16 degrees from whatever height to the base, and I'd love an option to have it draft to the base at a consistent 0.5" away from the model itself. Very similar to what the first image in my OP shows.
