I think what you are seeing is the difference in diameters between the roughing and finishing tool. The larger roughing tool is going to cut a little wider than the smaller finishing tool at the border. In the pic I used a .25 EM for the roughing toolpath with a .125 boundary offset and a .1/16" BN for the finishing toolpath with a .063 boundary offset . The "groove" next to the model is the finish tool boundary offset. This confused me also when I first discovered it

Thanks GEdward, Dealguy, Adze, Steve, and all commenters,

I really appreciate everyone's input and patience; especially Dealguy and Adze for pushing the pocket toolpath approach. That seems to have done the trick and from now on I'll "Let 2D toolpaths do what they do best and let 3D toolpaths handle the rest." As you can probably tell, I'm just getting started and am so grateful for everyone's help.

Did you get to the bottom of this problem
I am having the same problems when carving 3D models
grooves around each model which has been add to my base
model any help would be appreciated
