question on raised letters

Post by Al Allison »

Can someone please direct me to a tutorial or good example of making 'raised' letters. Not exactly a prism, but where the letters are up, possibly flat on the top, but with a bit of a rollover edge and the background is down flat. Say a 12" high "W" with a serif, about 1/2" thick letters. Something fairly efficient with all the material removal this requires. Thanks for the help.

There are several solutions depending on what you want for the appearance.

V-Carve with an outer box and a flat depth.
Profile On the line with a V-bit or roundover bit, and then optionally Profile On the line with an end mill.

There are probably a few other methods.
