I want to make a cribbage board on a wine barrel stave which is a curved surface. 1. Is this possible in Desktop Pro, or do I need to upgrade? 2. If possible, is there some tutorial to learn how to set up the depth of hole so that all holes are the same depth. See photo off the internet. Suggestions welcome.

You need a 3D model of the stave and use the "Project onto 3D" option in the toolpath for the holes to be a consistent depth.
Obviously with a 3 axis machine they won't be perpendicular to the surface but the holes will be the same depth from it.

can you point me to a video or explanation of making the necessary 3D model?

I expect that modelling it in VCarve is not in the cards.
For examples of doing so in Aspire see:
Some kind person here with some time on their hands might be convinced to model it in Aspire and save out an STL file. Time will tell...

Try a search on the forum as it's been talked about before & there may already be a file you could download & use

You can try using one of the domes in the 3D clipart that is supplied with Vcarve.

Sketchup, at least earlier versions such as 2008, could export objects you create in it to a 3D .STL file you could then import into VCarve. A barrel stave is a fairly easy shape to model (IMO).

from within VCP: perhaps beginning with one of the domes (included model with VCP). stretch model oval(ish) and draw rectangle boundary vector sized and positioned to demarcate the "3d" slice that appeals. then rough/finish, drill/pocket [project onto 3d model option selected] as described by others. and as pointed out, the hole will not be perpendicular to the sloping top, but will be/should perpendicular to the bottom (which has no slope)

You would want to stretch it longitudinally as barrels aren't sections of spheres. If that was so, barrels would be much wider than they are tall.
