Chamfer tool Path

Post by JMOlshefski »

I am making a WW2 Jeep Model from Toys & Joys. I am cutting the hood which has a height of 3 1/8 by width 4 Inches. The thickness at the top of the height is 5/8 and tapers down to 1/2 at bottom how do I chamfer down the 1/8 over the length of the 3 1/8. I tried multiple options in chamfer tool path and just cannot seem to get it?

Thanks
joe

We really need to see some photos.

Posting the file would help too.

My guess is your jeep hood is a 3d component and the chamfer toolpath only works on vectors.
The "angled effect" will have to be accomplished with Roughing and Finishing toolpaths.

Only a guess with info provided.

EDIT
So did you buy the pattern and parts list?
Is the pattern paper only?
Is there a STL involved at all?
If no STL how are you making this?
Just flat parts or are you creating 2d parts?
You are using VCarve so advanced 3d modeling will be an issue.

Presumably it's the patterns for this model - https://toysandjoys.com/98-ww-ii-milita ... ailer.html

I've found that some pieces like this are fairly easy to make with traditional woodworking tools. If you have a router table rounding the corners would be simple.

I think what you're asking is how to taper the hood down 1/8" from the windshield to the grill, ignoring for the moment how to round over the edges. You could cut that taper with a moulding toolpath. Can't give you any hints for the chamfer toolpath as I always use a moulding toolpath for chamfers that can't be cut directly with a v-bit.

That exactly it, not worried about round over sides,, how would I set up the molding tool path?

See example. All the parts/vectors of the toolpaths are in separate layers to help identify them.

Which version of VCarve do you have? The file will need 11.504.
