Bed zero versus material zero

Post by kstrauss »

For the last few years all of my jobs defaulted to Material zero but now each new job defaults to Bed zero. Has an update changed things? How do I make the Job Setup default to Material zero rather than Bed zero?

If you start a new job, set it to Material Surface, click OK and exit VCarve (no need to save) it will be on Material Surface for the next new job.

The software will default to whatever you had it set to last time you used it.

If you just upgraded, maybe it upgraded to bed.

Do what Adrian said.

If you have opened a file supplied by someone else, say for example a vectric free project & that used machine bed rather than material surface then that will change the default next time you open the software.
I always have a quick check over the forms just to be on the safe side

In a way, you could consider this a 'feature' - in another way an error.

VCarve takes a LOT from previous projects. One might wonder if it were not more user-friendly to be able to establish a user-defined default. Or is there such a possibility ?

Marcel.

Yes. That's what the templates can be used for. I can't remember the last I started a job from scratch for my own purposes. I always start from one of my templates so I know everything is the way I want it.

This would be your user defined default.

Bed zero for life! Just kidding, yea this gets me too when the 5% of the time I zero to the material and go back to machine bed. A template is a good idea which I might have to explore.

I actually made three so far, bottom left corner machine bed, bottom left corner material surface and center material surface. Keeps me sane and maybe a little safer.
