Desktop Size Limit 25 x 25...What Gives?

Post by AutoDoc1955 »

I set up a job for 24.999 x 15 inches, but get "Job size exceeds standard limits" dialog box (see attached). Am I missing something here?
TIA!

It's possible that it's a side effect of how floating point (decimal numbers) are stored in computers. For example in Excel if you enter the following formula in a cell: =2.6 + 1.4 + 4.62 - 8.2 the result displays as: 0.420000000000002000 rather than the exact 0.42.

So, 24.999 might be registering as 25.00001 or some other such thing. I had a similar problem when writing a gadget for VCarve Pro/Aspire. If I didn't specify a ridiculously detailed conversion factor then 6.35mm converted to 0.249999999 inches.

FIXED, kinda

Post by AutoDoc1955 »

I tried changing the 25.999" dimension as low as 23" and I still got the error message. I created a new crv file at 24.75 x 15", copied everything from the trouble file and pasted it in and remade the toolpaths. Now all is well so I'm thinking that once Vectric sees that you are out of bounds, that's it, you can never get past it. This is a bug. Hi,

I believe the “recommended” maximum job size is 24” x 24” for VCarve Desktop. You could start a new Job with no dimension larger than that and it should work alright.

The most common cause of this issue is a stray vector off the workspace and/or a toolpath that hasn't been recalculated with a vector outside of the limit. Use the Zoom to Drawing tool to locate vectors outside the workspace for the first issue and the Recalculate All tool for the toolpaths.

The software doesn't stop you from correcting errors in the same job and continuing. You can easily verify that by starting a new 25x25 job, drawing and toolpathing a vector off the workspace and trying to save the toolpaths. Now move the vector back onto the workspace and recalculate the toolpaths. You can now save without issue.

Given the limited information present in the first post I still like my answer. It may be wrong for the actual issue, now that more information has been presented, but it is a possibility for initial information.

My new understanding is instead of creating a job with 24.999 as a dimension this was resizing one? If that is so and there was vectors outside the envelope of 25 inches I can quite easily see that message coming up. The bug is in the limited information that it presents. “Job can’t be resized due to object outside the 25x25 bounds”.

This needs to be reported to support@vectric.com

The error message states 25 x 25 but the software limitation according to Vectric website states 24 x 24

I believe 24 x 24 is correct and 25 x 25 needs to be corrected

Duh, 24.75 works though! So is it really a 'bug' after all or is it just a wording issue?

Just a thought/opinion! 🙃

The Vectric website states the Desktop versions of the software have a Work area of 24” x 24”

This is also stated in Beki’s version 11 product overview video when she compares desktop vs pro versions of Cut2D and VCarve.

Perhaps a clarification is required between the 25” x 25” error message and the stated work area size of 24” x 24”

I have VCarve Desktop Trial and I can create a 25x25 job no problem. I can also create a job the size the OP posted no problem as well.

The only way I can duplicate what he is seeing is to have a vector outside of that area and then go to the Job Setup and change the size.

The product page states 25x25 not 24x24 as far as I can see.
VCarve Desktop & Cut2D Desktop only support job sizes up to a maximum of 25.0 inches x 25.0 inches without tiling. You can cut jobs larger than this limit but you will need to use the Toolpath Tilingfeature to cut the job in sections.
The VCarve Desktop Help section for Job Setup also states:
VCarve Desktop only supports job sizes up to a maximum of 25 inches square without tiling.

This page also states 24 x 24
https://www.vectric.com/products/vcarve-desktop

And on this page
https://www.vectric.com/products

Maybe perhaps it is 25 x 25
This sure makes it confusing

Right. Clarification is needed.

There are two terms being used…Job Size and Work Area

Some places say maximum Job Size is 24” x 24”
Other places say maximum Work Area is 24” x 24”

If a user can create a Job Size of 25” x 25” in Desktop versions, then I can only assume all Toolpaths must be contained within a 24” x 24” Work Area (unless using the Tiling feature to exceed that area)
