Weird jog on one cut causes rest of work to be off center

Post by tjandt »

Hello,
I'm working with VCarve Pro 11 and am experiencing a strange jog on one piece that then causes the rest of the cuts to be off by the jog amount. Here are the details:

Vcarve Pro 11
Shapeoko 3 XXL
Importing DXF file created in Visio into VCarve

The piece I'm working with is 24" x 31.75". I make multiple cuts that work just fine, then come to a piece on the far right of the work. The cutter seems to be going fine, then does this weird kind of jog, and the rest of the cut from that point forward is off by the width of the jog.

I've re-drawn the piece, thinking it may be a vector issue, but still have the same error. No issue with vector validator, and the node edit on it looks very clean. I have pictures of the issue I could share, and would really appreciate any help in resolving it.

Thanks,
Tim

Check your machine very carefully. Highly doubtful this is a software issue, if it were, hundreds of people would be complaining about it.

Hi Tim,

Does your Toolpath Preview in the software look alright?

If not, you can try recalculating All Toolpaths, then run a Preview again to confirm the job is going to run correctly.

If the Preview looks ok before recalculating, then it’s likely an issue at your machine (such as electrical interference with dust collection or perhaps a mechanical issue of some kind).

Could it not be something written within the Post Processor? That maybe should not be there?

Anything is possible I guess but it is unlikely, how many other people are using the same post processor who don't seem to have this problem or at least haven't posted about it

The other thing is that if it were a post-processor issue then you would generally expect it to cause problems right from the start not part way through a job as this seems to be.

It's quite possibly a machine issue as Ted has already said, something like an axis binding, electrical interference, static etc etc

On my machine, the total travel from limit to limit is 35". You don't have much room to play with. Are you possibly hitting your travel limit and losing steps? As suggested previously, check your set up and machine very carefully.
