Help Please....

Post by nailjockey »

I am a new user to V carve Pro and have tried 3 times to cut these parts out of cherry boards.
All 3 times failed.
I drew the vectors in V Carve Pro Ver 11 as a two sided job everything lined up top and bottom vectors all well and good.
Set up indexing holes to flip parts all good.
Setup toolpaths top and bottom and previewed all in software...perfect!
Drilled indexing holes into top....perfect!
Went to machine set x,y,z zero ran top toolpaths...perfect!
Ran index holes to spoilboard...perfect!
Flipped part and put pins into spoilboard holes..perfect fit!
Ran bottom side toolpaths and profile cutout and.....not so good :(
For some reason the profile toolpaths are not cutting symmetrically and i cant figure out why.
I haave ran these files 3 times and i get the same results with the profile note cutting to match the top toolpaths..
I would be very appreciative if someone with more experience could advise as im stumped..
i have attached a picture and the job files for inspection.

Your 2 guitar outer edges don't line up.
lines dont line up.jpg
Also you need to do node editing you have a million nodes which will result in a ragged cut edge.
too many nodes.jpg

Not centered either.

flipping about the center is critical.

Being perfectly center is critical.

Not being centered could double the error.
That is why in your photo some edges are thicker than you want and some are thinner.

In you case it is exaggerated because of how small your project is.

I find that when you get "things" out of alignment it is simpler just to create a new file.

You avoid the question of "Did I move everything? question.

First photo is your file node editing, all black squares are individual straight lines.

Second photo your files curve fit to Bezier curves, there are only 14 nodes.
Bezier.jpg

I guaranty Bezier curves are smoother than your original file.

The previews "look OK" because the wood is not actually being flipped.

This is an interesting post in that I didn't realize the preview not actually being flipped would "look right".

I find using "Center" of project when setting up VCarve works best on 2 sided projects.

+1

I always use the center for drawing and modeling and move it to the best place for cutting operations.

When I first started using the software I automatically set it to bottom left corner because I knew that I would be using that as my datum for cutting, never occurred to me that I could use the centre of material for designing & then switch it to bottom left for toolpathing

Now I tend to use the centre when designing, so many projects where it just makes things easier

I usually use center also. There are advantages to using lower left though. All numbers are positive.
