multiple pocket depths ?
multiple pocket depths ?
I have a situation where I have a dxf file of a guitar.
the pickup cavities, wire routes and control pocket are attached as one pocket.
the pickup cavities are two different depths, 3/4' and 1". the control cavity is deeper still at 1.5" deep and the wire routes should not be routed, they are drilled after the cavities are routed.
How would I isolate each section of the pocket for each individual depth and not route the wire route?
Thanks for your help

Something like this? Just make use of the start depth on each successive pocket.

Re: multiple pocket depths ?
I've colored the three sections that have different depths yellow, the other shot shows how the cavities are high lighted when selected.
How would I separate the three cavities to be routed from the wire channels that don't need routing?
I'm just starting out with this cnc/computer stuff
so thanks for the help

Re: multiple pocket depths ?
not very helpful, but would you be willing to share the dxf file?

At the moment it's all one big connected shape. You need to use the drawing tools to make shapes that correspond to each of the three sections so you can create toolpaths for them.ChuckD wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 6:30 pmI've colored the three sections that have different depths yellow, the other shot shows how the cavities are high lighted when selected.

You can either draw new shapes or use the node editing tools to cut those shapes apart, delete what you don't need & then join each of the shapes up again. If you are not sure how to do that then have a look at the node editing tutorials
Just a quick addition, copy that shape to a new layer before you start, that way if you make any mistakes you still have the original vector

Three Separate Pocket Toolpaths with each pocket to its specific depth.
Something similar to this!

Learning to use the drawing tools within the software can take some time to get the hang of it is a skill that is worth learning even if that is a little bit every now & then. Once you have it mastered then there is nothing you can't create vector wise & you don't have to rely on finding high quality bitmaps to auto trace. Same with node editing, a good skill to learn although once again it can take some timeChuckD wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:52 pmnode editing tutorials ...yesmartin54 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:19 pmYou can either draw new shapes or use the node editing tools to cut those shapes apart, delete what you don't need & then join each of the shapes up again. Re: multiple pocket depths ?
thank you
I'll take both of those tasks on. It is getting easier!
So ?
Pen or Mouse? which is your go to or do you use both?

Re: multiple pocket depths ?
With Vectric software I use the mouse, not sure how well graphics tablets are supported by the software to be honest, maybe someone who uses one can answer
When I was working full time as a signmaker I used a graphics tablet but that was with different software, the pen took a bit of getting use to but once I got the hang of it I found it easier to use. That was a few years ago & unfortunately the tablet wasn't supported past windows XP, as I don't do a lot of work anymore then I didn't invest in a new tablet
