Just saw this pop up, and it looked interesting for you laser folk.

NO idea how they'll work....Just mentioning.

They are high resolution BMP files. I've not tried one yet

Wow! These are nice STL models. Thanks!
I have saved the link.
Thanks,

There must be a choice of file types. I've used 3Dwave on several projects with no anomalies built in.

Are the 3DWave files designed for a particular bit size
like the D&M files or are they just project size dependent.

any suggestions for roughing and finishing tools would be
appreciated

Thanks

John

I've done a bunch of them and really depends on how large you scale the STL file. I've done large ones with a 1/16R TBN and smaller ones with a 0.5mmR TBN. The new V11 Rest machining makes it go faster. I've started using Raster for the largest bit and then switching strategy on the smallest bits. That produces the best results for me

D&M files are certainly easier to figure out probable bit sizes depending on project size!
ALSO in .v3m from D&M, VCarve can do model composition with multiple models...
with .STL we're stuck with one.

I've bought a dozen 3DWaves, and depending on the artist and the model, they can be all over the place on bit selection, and detail you want to capture.
BUT I'm a detail freak, and certain of their artists are detail freaks too. :)
Some artists are Great at some stuff, and then their mountain/feathers/trees leave something to be desired.
Inspect closely!
BUT in general the 7 I've carved (1.3X1.65" to 8X10.5") need several toolpaths to compare
bit sizes and details to be previewed in sequence to determine cutter strategy(a few more than D&M).
Love some of 3Dwave's artists, so I keep browsing new models.

The lasers were impressive to me at 2am the other day just before cutting(and today at 4am). :)
Love to here(or see) what the laser people think!
My machine can't take a laser, so generally glance over laser threads and am laser ignorant.
Girl and boy fishing/Malamute/Wolf are very tempting to me. :)

Gary,
On new Rest Machining....are you going Offset on smallest tool even on square/rectangular pieces?

I do a small offset on the smallest tool and it removed the "visible" border between the tools. With no offset at all it's visible. 0.2mm is working for me.

Thanks Gary!
I do kinda the same on some.
.01" inwards/Fit to Curves/node edit if needed...then run engraving bit for my Tinys fine details.
Haven't used in V11, as I'm cutting the same thing Over and Over again for weeks now.
(Seems like forever...can't wait to Play again!!)

Thanks again,
scott

Just wondering if anybody had lasered these without any problems?
Some of the new ones look Good;

IF my Shopbot Desktop had a direct power output (Manual control VFD), it would be tempting:)

They seem to come out with new ones pretty often now.

I have used many of their laser files with no problem whatsoever.
Great quality.

When purchased you download jpeg, bmp and png versions…. I have only used the png versions.

They are great and worth the cost… I have scaled them up to 600 x 400mm without any problems.
When I started using them they had a couple of images now they are up to 91 and bring out new images almost every day.

Thanks Ron!! :)
They've got several I wish were 3D models, as they'd be perfect for some friends!
(Of course the coffee/almonds/chocolate one would be for Me!:)
I carefully watch them for more Critter models, but still have a few I haven't even cut yet.
Glad it was of use to you! :)
