Inwards offset not duplicating rounder corners

Post by siric »

Hi,

I have created a 16" square with rounded corners (with a radius of 2"), but if I create an offset 2" inwards and have the Create sharp offset corners unchecked, it produces a square with 90 degree corners. Why wouldn't it be created with the rounded corners?

Thanks
Steve

The box got smaller - but so does the radius

2" radius minus 2" equals 0

Just to add to above post ---

You can always add rounded corners like example below

Yes, I know that I can create the rounded corners on the new square but my thought was that the offset creates a vector that is a facsimile of the original just smaller or larger. Same as me creating a copy and then changing the dimensions.

No, that is the Set Selected Objects Size tool that does that.

To see what each tool does and how they do it, see Help-Help Contents.

Yes but the OFFSET tool does an entire (box sides & radius) Dimensional Change in your example box. It is not a Facsimile change.

if you want a 2" smaller box maintaining a 2" radius then you will have to copy/paste then resize the box. Which in this case you would create a new size of a 12" box (2" Vertical by 2" Horizontal = 4" Total) with a final results of 16" - 4" = 12"

ARRRRGH!!! FixitMike beat me to it!!!
