Help Me Justify Upgrading to V11
I really want to upgrade from v10.5 to v11. Vectric works tirelessly to provide us great software, training and projects and I want to financially support them. I'm struggling with what new features I would actually use.
I am not doing anything with 3D carving and the multi-sheet support is not needed with my simple projects.
I am doing 2.5D projects and just started enjoying the double sided machining features.
What would v11 bring to my projects?
Thanks for any input.
Ken

Re: Help Me Justify Upgrading to V11
People ask these sort of questions all the time but really the only person who can answer is the person asking the question.
Watch the What's New videos and see if anything leaps out to you.
For what it's worth if you're not interested in 3D or the multiple sheets I wouldn't think it's worth the upgrade to you but there could be one killer feature in there that will change your life.

"Buy the best tool that you can afford when you need it” is generally a good rule of thumb.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If you do not feel good about upgrading - DON'T
If you see something you may like - then - DO
You can always download the trial version and try it out.

I would have to agree with Adrian, the only person who can really decide if it is worth it is you. For some people the upgrade will be worth it & for others it won't & the great thing about Vectrics upgrade policy is that you aren't penalised if you miss an upgrade
Watch the whats new Video, if your still unsure then download the trial version & have a play about

Yup, all the prior opinions/comments/suggestions are recommended.
I myself found that there is one really huge improvement with VCP 11 that is the capability of keeping various thickness parts of a project all in one Project File by using SHEETS which was already a part of VCP in the Nesting Feature.
I have just completed Laying out a project with VCP 11 --- The Cloud Lift Chair which is in Woodworker's Journal Magazine.
This project had three thicknesses (one very thick but this was just my test of VCP 11's Capabilities) .375", .75" and 2.0"
I also used Vectors assigned to Layers and Associating the necessary Layer for Toolpath Creation.
I am Truly Amazed!!! Well Done VECTRIC!!!
I also have been impressed with the capabilities to do Side SWAP on Two-Sided Projects!!!
These two Enhancements alone are worth an Upgrade to me!

Re: Help Me Justify Upgrading to V11
In general, I stay with the latest version of software I use, even if I don't use the new features. That gives me future "free" updates and ongoing bug fixes. Having said that, I still have Lotus Notes V9 on this machine... but I'm pretty much out of that business and working just with CAD/CAM related software. And for that, I'll stay up to date.

Re: Help Me Justify Upgrading to V11
gkas posted the biggest reason to upgrade for me. I really like Michael's projects. However, since it's only been 4 months since we paid to to upgrade to 10.5, paying to go to 11 isn't in the cards right now. Waiting for 12 won't kill us - will it?

Version 11 will not run on my old Windows XP and so I will wait.

I assume you mean you will wait until you upgrade your Windows version? From V11 onwards the Vectric software won't run on XP.ken whiklo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 3:11 pmVersion 11 will not run on my old Windows XP and so I will wait.

Yes I am running a Macbook Pro with parallels. I am looking to buy a new Macbook this fall with the M1 chip. I have seen that people are having trouble using Vcarve and Parallels with that chip. Waiting until this all get sorted out.Adrian wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 3:13 pmI assume you mean you will wait until you upgrade your Windows version? Re: Help Me Justify Upgrading to V11
Thanks for all the thoughts on upgrading. I'm a software engineer and strongly believe in staying pretty current on software versions.
I also feel like I'm being lured/taunted by the new version link in the upper right of the VCarve window
