VCP users.... playing with gregk multiple Zero Planes

Post by scottp55 »

On this thread, gregk from Vectric gave an example that was interesting;
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33996&p=247990&hili ... RN#p247990

And THEN he mentioned using multiple Zero Planes for "Curves"???
Then Steve Nelson just showed what looked to me like a curved valley, so I played a little:)

Now I've used Dishes/Domes, and 3D tabs to some good effect with my "Found Wood"
but sometimes wished I had some different shapes to follow wood contours etc. to use with an .stl.
I had an extra hour this am, and started playing with his basic file and was getting interesting,
but not anything that brought an idea to mind;

Then I started Setting in different directions, and using a negative number;
2021-07-11 07_11_GREGK PLAY 2 PLANES 01.jpg
And STILL playing and got this;
2021-07-11 07_11_GREGK PLAY 2 PLANES 1.jpg
Now the last 2 I can see using on firewood and branches(or ratty slab cutoffs) to add an .stl model
to, but still playing for different shapes and tilts.

Nowhere NEAR being able to predict the shapes and curves, but thought it worth mentioning.
I was just using a .5" BN with stepover for a smooth surface....
different bits and stepovers for scalloping?? :)
Does give you a 3D surface for projecting onto! :)

Here's the basic file for the last pic; I had to open a new folder just so I can remember basic shapes as I go.
Like I said, just playing around, BUT it's interesting for me. :)
Thank you Greg!!
OH...Greg's original file was in VCP9.5....for those with 9.5, that original file is good for starting.
I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself

Interesting Stuff there Scott!!!

I spent an entire afternoon doing just that --- Playing/Fiddling ---- to see what can and cannot be achieved. Created some weird shapes at times but there were some that could probably be used (provided you can remember) what you did to get the results in the first place!

Yep...I'm incrementing and saving pics with the name like crazy :)
ODD shapes when you "Set" new angles....
be REALLY nice if I could predict or get a handle on it BEFORE I play...kinda getting there:)

Reminds me of playing with Tailmaker's Guilloche pattern generator....if you don't save the interesting ones
You'll NEVER remember how you got there!!

Speaking from personal experience Michael??? :D :D
(You who MAKE the Incredible Details in models because you Want to :) :) )

WAY easier for Aspire and they're probably laughing at my unpredictable shapes...
(Some belong in MIT's Rotundum library periodical that Dad had me pick up;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journal_o ... le_Results
and we read together) :)

BTW....asked myself the other day if I was crazy....and got an "Eccentric, but NOT crazy" :) :)
I haven't even gotten Into domes/dishes and models with some of these for "Firewood"!

LOTS of weird shapes I didn't post on 3 Zero Planes, as I was also chatting with Instacart shopper...
ALMOST missed out on my normal cheddar that bites BACK!
Had to have him dig for some ancient "reserve" wrapped in wax cheddar :)

I LIKE finding funky things:)
