Display Filepath

Granted, during normal file operations (98% of the time), I don't have a problem making and saving files. I know where I'm at. No tips needed on how to save or find a file.

Sometimes, though, I get into a situation where I've loaded a file, and I don't obviously know where it came from. For example, perhaps I need to copy some vectors for a file I'm currently working on.

I haven't found a display of the file's path anywhere. I haven't found a shortcut. I haven't found any way, within Vectric software, to display or copy the file's path. If you're already working on a file and have saved into a path, then you are already there. However, even then, there doesn't seem to ever be a display of that path. I run into this a lot, and just work through it with the computer file system.

Is there a way to do this in Vectric software that I've missed?

The standard Windows File | Save As brings up the Windows file dialog showing the current location of the file. That's the only way I know how to do it. Never really had a problem with it.

If you're asking how to find out what created a gcode file here is an answer

I modified my post processor to include these comments in every g-code file

Gary, that is interesting how you did that! I've searched the online "Users Guide" and didn't find "[FILE_PATHNAME]". I found [TOOL_PATHNAME], though.

Of course, that isn't what my question was, but it is interesting that you can put the "([FILE_PATHNAME])" in a post processor, but not have it readily available on the software display. I'm wondering if that can be applied in the Drawing tab somehow.

Thanks for the other comments, but like I said, I know how to go through the gyrations to get the file path name. The desire is to have it displayed in a way that I can perhaps copy it to do something with it. I like to add the path and file name to my printed page, also.

If you set the default file operation mode in Options to Job then the various open/save dialogs will start in the location of where the current job was loaded from. Personally I have it set to Operation as I like each dialog to maintain links to their own folders rather than the Job folder.

You can click in the box at the top of any file dialog where the the pathname is displayed to change it into a text string that can be copied/pasted.

Looks like there's only one option to work with. I received the following from Vectric support this morning. (I added the emphasis.)

Hi

There is not I think for what you are referring to.

As you say, the software remembers the last accessed folder when you go to save/open a file and in the Edit - Options you have the option to set the "File Dialog Default" as Global, Operation or Job.

I imagine the Operation will help most for you, so the vector Import option should be remembered separately from the Toolpath saving folder last used for example.

It does not state those locations in the software itself, but just starting them to open the Windows File Manager will show the remembered folder.

What would be a nice addition to V-carve or Aspire is to add --- "Design File Location" to the Job Setup Sheet GADGET.
Possibly after "Title"

I print these job setup sheets for every job to take with me to my workshop. They are valuable for making notes of changes/adjustments made throughout the job process. I then take that information back to my design computer, make the necessary adjustments/changes. I then print a new Job summary and file it away along with the changes/adjustment copy from first job process for future reference.

Right now I have my browser set to print a footer with the file location where the summary comes from which is same location as my design file.

Just a Thought!!!
