Too many fonts
Too many fonts
Is there a way of a user editing down fonts into a favourites folder? There are so many, and so many that are very similar that a folder with ten or so most used would be good. I know that the last used appear at the top, but a sub folder would be neater.

Re: Too many fonts
Except for the fonts that come with Vcarve, all fonts used by the program are in "C:\Windows\Fonts". Move the ones you don't want to see in VCarve to another folder. All other Windows programs will not be able to see/use them either.

Re: Too many fonts
Further to Steve's thought about moving lesser used typefaces to another folder: It used to be a "feature" in Windows that if you previewed a typeface that was not in the Windows Font folder then that typeface was available for use in your programs until you closed the preview application.

Re: Too many fonts
I keep a short Notepad ++ list of my favorite fonts. Organized by the type of fonts with comments. Easy and quick to view.

Re: Too many fonts
You can control how many fonts appear at the top of your font list by changing:
Edit->Options->General Settings->Recent Font List Size Default is 5.
This controls how many of your most recently used fonts appear at the top of the font selection list. Make it long enough to include all the fonts you normally use and you can literally ignore the rest of the list.

That works ok unless you do a lot of work where the Customer uses a specific fontTomWS wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 1:49 pmYou can control how many fonts appear at the top of your font list by changing:

If your just doing your own thing & use the same fonts all the time it's a good option though
I did make a feature request at one time for the software to include a font manager. My signmaking software has one built in & it makes life so much easier, no idea how difficult it would be to add something like that to the software, maybe not that easy or not enough people have requested such a thing
Re: Too many fonts
Given how complex the code for Vcarve must be, I would expect that adding a user definable fonts folder would be quite a simple addition.
Perhaps we should all start asking for it.

Re: Too many fonts
It's been asked for many times over the years from all the posts I've seen about it so it's probably not as simple as it would seem.

Good find @adze_cnc! Do you use it? Is there anyone here who uses it and can comment on it?adze_cnc wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:39 pmIn the meantime something like this might be of use: https://fontba.se/

Re: Too many fonts
I don’t us it but I did put it in my read later list. I’m not terribly fond of the FontBook application in macOS so I thought I’d give this a go.
Most 3rd party typeface managers under Windows look less than useful (add to a favourites list that no other app can use; install/uninstall process that is little different from Windows itself) but this one looks useful.

Re: Too many fonts
Similar to the OP's question I get many fonts at the top of the list, starting with the @ symbol.
These fonts just align vertically rather than horizontal. I never use them.
No other program that I use shows these fonts. They do not appear in the windows font folder.
Can I get rid of them?

The only way I have found to remove the @fonts is to delete the entire font family from your computer.
You can hit the "9" key twice to rotate them.

Re: Too many fonts
They are in every program as they are Microsoft fonts. They just aren't displayed in the same way in the lists. Any font that supports Asian languages displays as an @ font.Greolt wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 1:53 amSimilar to the OP's question I get many fonts at the top of the list, starting with the @ symbol.

That may be true but it's not an automatically shown with the @.
The Microsoft font Tahoma supports both Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese characters yet it is not shown with the @symbol.
At least not in my version of the Aspire software.
