what script text do you like that you don't have to spend all day editing to get a pretty result

Depends on the project & the size I want the text as with any font I use, one thing you can do which is quick & easy is to use the offset tool to make your text stroke a little bit thicker, how much again depends on the size you want but there is also a limit on how large you can make the offset before things start to look wrong
As for names most of my fonts are commercial so the names will generally be different from those you can find for free.

One of my go to scripts that usually looks good out of the box is Vladimir Script.
Some kerning needed on a few letter combos, and if your fussy.
These were small, so a 30 degree engraving bit with a .005" flat.
Works well down to .18" font height if material is dead flat and Z-Zeroing is accurate.

• script “right out of the box” that needs editing and
• the same script that has been edited “all day"

for comparison?

Aah...stacked text.
Been years, but think you have to Convert to Curves at some point...that's a problem with Scripts.
Vectric will recognize a script font and usually ignore all the overlaps, BUT
once you Convert to Curves VCarve doesn't think it's a font, and it's node edit time!
(Do ALL use of font tools/copy and save that on a separate hidden layer/and THEN Convert)

Beki did a stacked text session that was really neat, but I'll look for it later.

One of the fonts I found that I like better as raised text than just VCarved is Freestyle Script;

It does need kerning depending on the bit and font size(maybe kern enough for no overlaps?).

Maybe a font that suggests a script, but letters are separated like Monotype Corsiva, so no overlaps?

Others here are WAY better at fonts than I am, and now we know it's stacked text they'll chime in.

Actually the heart/dome is a reject that I repurposed when Sage picked it out when she came from CA.
I made a Heart for Dad of River Red Gum and did a simple negative cut, and it fit perfectly....
THEN I added the Dome...and Mucked it Up somewhere.

So it didn't make it to Vermont for the early Christmas:(
Sat on a table till Sage picked it for her aquamarine....
Then made the base so it looked like I PLANNED it

Edwardian Script is used on the right half of this plaque for the names and date

Thanks for the tip on the Vladimir script. I had seen that before and found it interesting, but had forgotten about it.

That 5A Oregon Big Leaf Maple IS psychedelic:)
A very nice finish can be gotten with my normal 50/50 Earthpaint polymerized Linseed/D-Limonene
if sanded to 600G(don't use anything lower than 150G to start...100G ripped up as it went down).
This is the back of my computer shelf with 4 coats;

BUT Sage saw Mom's "Heart" and apparently has Mom's liking of a semi-gloss that was out.
(I want it Glossy!!)

For Mom and really figured wood I like to add 2-3 tsp in a half pint of the above mix of this in small batches;

BUT I'd been using it for years when it was pre-thinned like a lacquer from Earthpaint.
They didn't have anymore one time until the next harvest 4 months away, and got a call from somebody WAY up apologizing for the delay, and asking how I was using it and some pics.
I was using it as an additive, and he said "Neat!".
When it finally showed up it was the pure not the regular thinned stuff. Had a "cold honey" consistency,
and a note saying "Sorry for the delay...THIS should last longer:) "
(and has been pure thick stuff ever since for 3 yrs(5 orders)...maybe my account is flagged??)
SO I Hate to recommend it as I don't know which consistency another person would get
Wonderful stuff, but there's No Way to use full strength like they recommend with my Honey stuff.

With the resin, it really Pops! Also takes less coats to build up gloss you like.
Here is a pic of the back with 2 coats of 50/50 mix with 2 tsps added.

Sorry to OP for yakking...I'm avoiding masking up and stationary belt sanding a small piece of slab

Here's a stacked text example with two fonts: NokieBrushHMK over Arial. I think the NokieBrush came with a Hallmark Card Design program.

Also, I like the font Liorah BT for a scripty yet casual, kind of handwritten font. It requires some cleanup.

i was watching her video and I couldn't figure out how she is snapping the rectangle. every time I snap to the center I only get 1/4 of the rectangle.(at 16:27) I'm trying to figure out snapping too. then when I put the text in the box it does not fill the whole box
