I am new to VCarve but have managed to produce several sign projects already using some 3D models, but on this one I am having issues to which I hope someone can help me learn or point me in the right direction. The 3D model calculates fine and on the preview on the computer looks perfect. However when I go to cut it on the machine (X-Carve 2) the bit cuts too deep into the material.
I am using 1/2 Walnut
The bit is a 1/8" Ball Nose.
I am using the 3D Finishing Toolpath
I have the correct bit selected
I am trying to machine the "Material Boundary"
I am using OFFSET and CLIMB
Stepover is 0.0
Here are my tool settings
Diameter 0.0313
Flutes 3
Pass Depth 0.0156
Stepover 0.0031 - 10%
Any help on how I can adjust the depth level would be appreciated

Re: Need Help with 3D project
If the cutter is an 1/8” ball nose why are you specifying a diameter of 1/32” ?
Re: Need Help with 3D project
Correction to the diameter it is 0.0625

Re: Need Help with 3D project
How much is too deep? Remember that a 3D finish toolpath always cuts at full depth.the bit cuts too deep into the material.
This means you are dealing with a machine or material issue.the preview on the computer looks perfect
Some photos of the results will help us help you find and remedy the root cause.

Re: Need Help with 3D project
The diameter is still wrong. .125 is 1/8" unless you are using the radius of 1/16".

Re: Need Help with 3D project
I will try to get a dropbox link setup to post the file and maybe some photos but in short it cuts all the way through the board in some sections and the top of the 3d model is about an 1/3 of the way down on board. This is the same on both 1/2 material and when I tried it with 3/4 inch material as well. I am using a standard 1/8 Ballnose from Toolstoday and imported the settings from their tool files. I will try to screen shot those settings as well. Thank you.

Re: Need Help with 3D project
iHave you specified a distance you want the top of the model to sit within the material thickness ie "a gap above model" because if you haven't & the model is sitting towards the bottom of your board then the bit will plunge deeply into the material.
You can't set a pass depth for a finish toolpath, a finish toolpath is one pass at full model depth, that's why you have a roughing toolpath as well
