Hi,
How is the depth of cut for a fluting toolpath calculated and is it possible to change the number of passes?
Thanks
Steve

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath
The flute depth is controlled in the fluting toolpath
The number of passes is controlled by the tool pass depth.

See fluting toolpath: https://docs.vectric.com/docs/V9.5/VCar ... lpath.html
Link for v9.5 but V10.5 should be similar.

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath
Question is - why would the Fluting doc be controller by the tool depth of path not include control over the number of passes similar to the Profile toolpath?

Try reading your last question out to a grand-parent to see if they understand it.
If I understand your question (after much parsing) Rcnewcomb's two pictures show that that depth of cut for the flute is in the 1st image and the individual pass depth (the same as a profile toolpath's pass depths) is in his second image. The link to the help file that I posted explains in more detail what Rcnewcomb summarized into two images.

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath
I fully understand what is being explained. My question is why don't you have control over number of passes in the fluting toolpath much like in profiles and pockets. Rather than messing with the tool parameters, one can easily override in the toolpath setting.

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath
The way it's done in the fluting toolpath with the number of passes being controlled by the pass depth on the tool was the only way on the profile and pocket toolpaths for years and years as well. I guess there's never been a demand to have the same setup in the fluting toolpath.

Re: Depth of cut for Fluting toolpath
Here's a case where an image might have helped—or at least the mention of the profile pass' "Edit Passes..." button. How is the depth of cut for a fluting toolpath calculated and is it possible to change the number of passes?
The shortish answer to this new question: the programmers haven't included that ability in the fluting toolpath (or 3D roughing; or 3D finishing, or pocket).
Perhaps a feature request is in order? support@vectric.com is, I believe, the address to use for that.
