Convert 2D to 3D
Is it possible to convert a 2d image to a 3d image using VCARVE Desktop 9.5? Thanks in advance.

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
The short answer is no, you would need Aspire.
The longer answer is, "It depends on what the image is, and the effect that you want for the final product."
Seeing the 2D image might be helpful.
How do I upload files or photos to the forum?

Red,
If you're looking to do something like this, then you will need Aspire.

Yes, you can use the trial version but you won't be able to cut it with your machine.

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Download the trial Version & see for yourself, there is no time limit & most of the functions work. There is a pretty steep learning curve for this sort of thing & it will probably take time & effort to be able to do it well. Michael is a real expert at this sort of thing, he has been doing it for years & the Model he posted will have been done using a lot of different techniques he has learnt over the yearsredandbon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 8:45 amIs this something I could do using the Aspire Trial version?Rcnewcomb wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 8:50 pmThe short answer is no, you would need Aspire.

Also be aware that a lot if not all of what he has done has been drawn from scratch not by converting the photo, the photo is mainly for reference with a lot of this sort of work.

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Design & Make has the Navy Emblem, Rearing Horse, maybe merge together in Aspire
Stars and text can be created easily in Aspire
The circular rope rope can be found in clipart folder under borders
The background flag can be vectors lightly etched/carved for painting.
Just my thoughts and opinions!

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Taking on a challenge
My plan is to carve in layers to give this a 3D look like the Stacked text project.
This is what I have on tracing this Navy Emblem so far. Presently working on the Eagle Shield layer Note that I have included the Rope model border

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Stacked Items in order to be carved to provide a 3D Appearance:
1.) Rearing Horse
2.) Eagle and Shield
3.) Anchors and ropes
4.) Flag and Star Background along with Outer Rope, Stars and Text
Going to be Challenging! Do not have Aspire so this is the next best thing for me in VCarve Pro 10.507

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Rearing Horse and Eagle Shield Toolpathed roughly some tweeking of vectors is needed! Slowly achieving a 3D appearance using a stacked cutting technique.

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Then a bit of vector cleanup
Fine tune rope model within the material
Gradually getting a 3D Appearance using the layer/stacking carving technique

Re: CONVERT 2D TO 3D
Thanks for the view of your process!
While looking at your list of toolpaths, I was reminded of the point when I decide to start using toolpath grouping in Vcarve Desktop. It really made a difference in reviewing and making changes. It is really an easy drag-n-drop operation.
