Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Hi all,
I am having a small problem when cutting a design done in VCarve Desktop 10.507. My design is vertically centered but when I cut it the actual cuts are down about 1cm from where it is in VCarve. I'm using a LongMill 30x30 and don't have this issue in designs done in other programs. Is there a setting I'm missing? Any help in fixing this would be much appreciated.

Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Are you setting your XY home position to the same place as it is in the Job Setup form in VCarve? Also check to make sure there are no offsets specified on the same form.
Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Thanks - I'll check. I'm not sure what the settings are off hand.
Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Checked the project setup and everything looks normal. No offsets, etc.

Please attach the CRV file so we can look for anything unusual. If it is too large to attach here you can place it on a site like drive.google.com or dropbox.com, make it shareable, and then post the link to the file here.

Hi,
I've attached the vectric file for your examining pleasure. Thanks for looking into this...

I looked at your file and I can't see anything wrong. If your outside vector is intended to be a cutout and final size of the sign then you should set the toolpath to cut on the outside of the line instead of on the line.

I don't see a problem with the CRV file. What post-processor are you using when you save the toolpaths?

Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
This is one of those cases where the g-code file would be useful to see. If there is no extra 1cm move in the Y-axis (which is what I guess you mean by " the actual cuts are down about 1cm from where it is in VCarve") then it's something in your machine setup.
Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Hi all,
1) I used the grbl(mm) postprocessor, which is what I use on almost all my projects. My setup for the LongMill is the same as I've used for all of my other projects, including several built in VCarve.
2) The gcode file is attached; extension changed to .txt so I could attach it.
Thanks for your attention.

Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
The G code starts cutting in the proper place. My design is vertically centered but when I cut it the actual cuts are down about 1cm from where it is in VCarve
When you say the actual cuts are 1cm (10mm) lower, how are you measuring that? Are you measuring from the bottom of the blank to the groove cut by the Profile frame toolpath?
Did you set XY zero to the lower left corner of the blank?
You have specified profile ON the line, so the groove will be 1/16" (1.5875 mm) below the vector.

Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
1) Measured from the bottom.
2) I set my X/Y/Z 0 at the top of the stock, bottom left corner.
This is what I mean by "offset": Compare this with the VCarve project and I hope it's obvious I have measured the actual blank to ensure it matches the design.

Re: Design cut vertically offset relative to VCarve design
Just a quick question. Is your material blank the correct size? The same as defined in the design.
oops, just saw that you have checked, sorry.

Not sure if it has any bearing on the problem, but your picture is not the same as your crv file. Just some differences- the alignment of the letters and the word "Of" vs "OF".
