Major Issue for me with 10.506

Post by wb9tpg »

I installed the patch and some of the tool paths I generated are resetting the spindle speed to 0 on a G3 command. I check the post processor and it was using the variable [P] in the post processor. I had to change it to [S] to restore normal operation. It was working in 10.505 correctly with the old setting.

The patch to 10.506 is relatively to resolve some small issues with some post processors. If you don't have those issues stay with the 10.505, Let vectric know of the problem you have and maybe the fix will be in the next patch

I sent support an email and we'll see. Being I have a workaround running I'm going to run my paying jobs and look at it later tonight.

I sent a test file to Vectric support but thought you'd guys would like to see it too. Simply save the toolpath using the out of box Grbl Inch post processor and look at the first G3 command. At the end of the line you'll see "S0" (speed zero). And the CNC faithfully turns the spindle off.

I am seeing a similar issue, but the S0 appears on the first G1 command:
  • G1Z2.381S0F508.0
Thankfully I had my hand close to the emergency stop button!

Now to figure out how to fix, I see the [P] used on several commands:
  • FIRST_FEED_MOVE
  • FEED_MOVE
  • FIRST_CW_ARC_MOVE
  • FIRST_CCW_ARC_MOVE
  • JET_TOOL_ON
  • JET_TOOL_POWER
To me the overlap between POWER (presuming laser power) settings and SPINDLE_SPEED settings is confusing.

Vectric support confirmed the issue and forwarded it to development. I hope they'll have a fix soon.

Reference Issue 152595

I was lucky to have an eye on the machine or it could have resulted in damage if it kept going

I just downloaded 10.507 and ran several test cases though it and it looks like the issue is fully resolved.

Thank You to the Vectric team for their quick and professional actions. Nice Job.

And BTW - like 10.506 - if you use MalwareBytes, you have to turn it off before you can install 10.507 successfully .(unlike previous update patches 10.505 and all earlier versions)

I don't use MalwareBytes but does it not have the option to allow you to add programs that are safe so you don't have to turn it off each time? Most of the software for antivirus/malware that I have seen has the option to allow you to make changes.

Does vectric's know the grbl G-Code hasn't worked correctly since the 505 update I've had to go back copy and paste older version of grbl for each update would like to see this addressed if it hasn't already been, thank you

10.507 has a small issue in it. When I try setting the number Laser passes to 2; the second pass is run with the laser turned off. I documented it and sent the crv and gcode off to support. In the meantime I just set the passed to 1 and just run it again. I've tested it using the out of box Shapeoko Inch pp (not my normal pp but I fall back to it to make testing easier for Vectric).
