Long reach bits
I am having trouble finding 1/8 inch bits with a long reach to get into tight areas
where a 1/4 inch is too big such as in this clipart the longest I can find is 1/2 inch cutting length
and I would like 1 - 1/14 inch cutting length, it would have be cut with a lot of passes, does anyone know

Re: Long reach bits
I use these - https://www.cncshop.com/uk_en/catalog/p ... nose-long/ - but they're not available as end mills hence the earlier question.

Re: Long reach bits
Are you asking about long cutting length or long shaft length (for reach)?
You might look at this recent post, too.

Re: Long reach bits
Thank you all for the quick replies, I will check them all out
Adrian, all the long reach bits you linked to are in metric sizes, I have a Makita router with a 1/4 inch collet and have another 1/8 inch collet on order, it is hard to get these collets as Makita do not make them, I did find one at Ooznest, they are £35 each so not cheap

Re: Long reach bits
For your next upgrade (when the time comes) Think about switching to a spindle rather than a router, if nothing else it makes buying router bits so much easierClockman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 2:10 pmThank you all for the quick replies, I will check them all out

I have an ER20 Collet chuck on my spindle, I have a full set of metric collets so can use any metric shaft from 1mm to 12mm plus I have 1/8", 1/4" & 1/2" collets for some of the imperial bits I have, could also buy other size imperial collets but have never needed them
I think you can actually buy collet chucks to fit routers but they will extend the length of the router which may reduce your z cutting height

Re: Long reach bits
Thank's Martin, good idea, I will have a look at spindles, are they water-cooled and very expensive, I have just upgraded to Aspire, so my pocket money is all gone for a while

Thank's Jerry, do you have a link for Drillman1, I am in the UK and can't seem to find his website
Re: Long reach bits
Not Jerry, but here's a link to drillman1's ebay store:
https://www.ebay.com/str/carbideplus
(no affiliation here, have just bought a couple bits from him, worked fine).

Re: Long reach bits
Don't know if things have changed but some time ago when I saw a post from Scott about Drillman1 I had a look & at that time he or they didn't ship to the UK. Like I say was quite some time ago sothat may have changedjerry carney wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 3:09 pmDrillman1 will fill your needs at a good price.Have used all suppliers recommended in this thread

You can buy both air cooled & water cooled spindles, when I was looking a few years ago I was advised to get a water cooled spindle for a couple of reasons, one was noise & the other one was for continuous running on long carves.
