10.5 does not have the Piranah CNC post processor

Post by Rhots »

Hi , 10.5 does not have the CNCPiranah-arcs post processor
I used the migration tool, it must not work.
What do I need to do?
Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,

NextWave have replaced all of the separate posts with a single Next Wave CNC post which has the same functionality.
If it was an unmodified post then it may not have been migrated across but send us a support ticket and we'll be happy to take a look at why migration may have failed.

Cheers,
Adam

Hi Rick

If you could just send us an email to support@vectric.com explaining the failure to migrate that would be perfect.

Thanks
Adam

Same for me.

Do I understand correctly that the Shark post works for the Piranha without any modifications?

thx, rink.

Yes I believe that the Next Wave CNC post is the replacement for the CNC Shark and CNC Piranha posts which were themselves very similar to each other.

Thanks,
Adam

There are specific rotary posts, and those have not been removed. It is only the Basic posts that have been renamed.

Thanks,
Adam

You need to keep scrolling down the list of post processors to "Next Wave CNC"

Adam: thx for the info. I'm no expert on gcode, but "very similar" doesn't sound like "same". Are there any differences that I need to know about or adjustments I need to make before I run a job on my Piranha with the new post?

Hi rink,

Fair point. I was being cautious because they are not exactly the same. The differences between the CNC Shark and CNC Piranha posts were:
  • The Shark Post set a specific G64 tolerance (my understanding is that this isn't necessary any more)
  • The Shark post set a static spindle speed in the header and turns the spindle on (my understanding is that the Piranha does not have a controllable spindle so these commands are ignored so this isn't a real difference)
  • They had different names
The new post processors have changes to allow it to work with NextWave's laser controller. The difference between the new controller and the old piranha post are as follows:
  • The spindle on block has been separated so the spindle is not turned on if it is just a laser toolpath. It also sets the spindle speed, turns the spindle on, and pauses to allow the spindle to reach speed (again I think these are just ignored by the Piranha)
  • All the feed moves have had a power output added
postp_comaprison.png
i've attached a screenshot of my comparison software showing the differences, and also the original posts. I would say that if you are not using the laser features there should be no observable differences in output, however, there is no substitutue for the confidence of knowing it works, and so you also won't have any issues if you just take the old post and use that one instead, it just won't be laser compatible.

Thanks,
Adam

I have had a similar problem. I have been using my laser module on my Piranha XL with no problems. I upgraded to ver 10.5 of Desktop and there was no longer a post processor for the laser. I posted here and was told about the new post processor Next Wave CNC so I saved the toolpath using that processor and it still does not work. It acts like it is doing what it needs to do but there is no laser. I tested the laser and it appears to work. Am I missing something? I read something about a migration, is that something I need to do? If so, I have no idea how to accomplish that. Help! I have 6 projects that I need to complete for a client.

If you haven't deleted the older version of VCarve, then just copy the postprocessors you need from the older version of VCarve into the My_PostP folder for version 10.5. Close and reopen the program and your old postprocessors will be there and should work just as they did before.

I did not delete the ver 10 of Desktop. I went and found the directory (C:/Program Files/Vcarve Desktop 10.0) but I don't know where the post processors are located. Any ideas?
