Sloped Circular, smooth pocket?

Post by WarrenGlass »

Hi
I want to make a 20-inch platter with an inch & half outer ring with a quarter inch slop from the outer edge circle down toward the inter circle. Is there a way to do this with vcarve pro? Any suggestions on how?

Thank you Gkas and Steve for the quick replies. I will try both later when I get back to my computer.

I could not get either file to work with Vcarve-Pro version 9.5XX. They look like they will work perfectly for what I want to do but it looks like I would need to get Aspire. Is Aspire worth the $1,300.00 upgrade cost?

I used Aspire ver 10 but I saved it as a V-Carve file. You should be able to duplicate what I did using the setup screens that I posted.

For the moulding toolpath I used the inner circle for the drive rail and the small angled line as the profile. I adjusted the angle so it was .25" in height and the toolpath should be positioned at the top of the material. I also used the inner circle for a .25" pocket.

I'm still using Aspire 9.519. I don't know how thick you want the platter, but see if this V-Carve file works.

Try this file, it's saved in VCP 8.5

I haven't tried to cut it but the original moulding toolpath version (Tray molding setup-Pocket.crv) previews properly in VCarve Desktop.

Thank you for all the reply's and information. I got everything working. I did upgrade from VcarvePro version 9.5 to 10 and then all worked as everyone had indicated. Where should I have been able to learn about the two rail sweep method on my own?

I will attempt two attach two pictures of a smaller version of the platter I turned on my lathe. I can't do the 20 inch on the lathe and so I am going to do them on the cnc if possible.

2-rail sweeps are part of the 3D modeling tools in Aspire. They are not possible in V-Carve.

You can do Moulding Toolpath with Vcarve, but not 2 rail sweep.

Back on June 22 2020 4D Thinker attached a .crv file. When open, it shows a cross section drawing of the layout. Is there a way to created this cross section drawing from the layout using Vcarve Pro v11? I tried the item under measure but it puts up a warning I need a model? How do I make the model for this option to work and will this option give me the cross section drawing I am trying for? Warren

I suppose you could create a component from the toolpath preview to get a 3D model that the measuring tool create cross-section option can then use to extract the profile.

But the question is why extract something from a 3D model that already exists as a 2D vector that will be used to create the model in the first place?
