XY after bit change moves
XY after bit change moves
Been having an issue that keeps wasting material. Create project, fairly simple 2d, and all looks good in preview. go to machine and run "clear" section of 1st pocket with .25 em. Change to .125 for final cleanup, reset z with touchplate but no other changes. Start program and xy is off by inches on Y. Tried "move 0,0" and it showed difference so reset xy to 1/16 bore I placed at center. Start again and it is still off but other direction, almost like it just did not go to 0,0 so change threw it off the other way. Not using good material but still driving me a bit off here :.{

Re: XY after bit change moves
your origin is the same regardless of the endmill. Try zeroing the x and y after the endmill change. Assuming you haven't moved it, it should now definitely know it's zero. If it still does it, then I would suspect program error (check for offset).

Re: XY after bit change moves
After milling center mark has been milled away. I bring bit forward to change, reset z with touchplate. Then choose next .tap and hit start. Can't find any offsets in use. When I drilled a 1/16 hole at xy and hit the "move 0,0" it doesn't go back to hole. If I manually reset to old center it offsets in other direction.
Relatively certain it is a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair) issue, also pretty much a newbie so ...

Are you sure the routine you're using to set the Z isn't resetting the XY at the same time?

Are you sure you are not hitting "Zero X,Y, Z", I also have a Piranha LX and this is the only thing I can think of that would cause the issue.

Been there done that. Definitely not this time. Just reran without using the .25 clearance tool so no bit change and came out perfect. Doing a v-carve texture now and all seems good, so far. All I can think of is carriage jogging some but wouldn't think the .5" it moved. Still working on it...
