I making a cribbage board and using the cnc for the holes. I wonder what spindle speed is recommended
The holes are 1/8” wide and 1/2” deep. My understanding are that peck drilling is recommended. Anyone know how many passes for that is best and how I program this?
Thank you
David

Feedrates are very dependent on machine type.
If you are using a small end mill as a drill it may not be end cutting. I drill with them regularly but keep in mind not to take too deep of a cut on each pass. Usually set mine for about 1/16 and only do a partial retract to save time. If you are not familiar with the drilling strategies then you should take a look at a relevant tutorial. If you are not in a huge hurry then you might want to do a full retract between each pass to clear chips. Sort of depends on how your end mill performs. I use bargain basement el cheapo chinese ones and they work just fine.
Feedrate I use is typically about 60 IPM. I have no idea if this is too fast or too slow according to the charts. I don't care because it works for me without problems.

Re: Cribbage board holes
David
When I'm drilling the holes for cribbage boards I typically use a feed rate
of 50 imp and a spindle speed of 12000 with peck drilling. This seems to work
well with my machine. As Ted stated it is based on your machine but I
also think it is a good starting point.
