Spoil Board Resurface Question

Post by garymkrieg »

First time resurfacing a spoil board. A new piece of 3/4" MDF, what would be a good starting depth to remove?

I usually draw pencil lines all over mine and then take off 0.01" at a time. I repeat if the pencil lines are not all gone. Hopefully you're talking about a new piece of MDF you added and not the original bed.

We remove .01", then flip it, and remove .01" from the other side.

He might do it for a couple of reasons. But, since he runs a big honking industrial router my guess is so that they can pull a vacuum through it. Or, some things tend to warp if you only remove material on one side.

Yes, to pull vacuum through it. You need to surface both sides to get better airflow through it.
