I've done about a dozen from Judy Gale Roberts ( https://intarsia.com ). They will mail a large print out that I took over to FedEx to have them scan it can save it as a pdf file. I was then able to bring it into Aspire and trace the vectors. Adobe Illustrator is another good software for the tracing.
It's a lot of work, but the outcome will be admired by all.

I've noticed a lot a free ones from a search on the net.

Here's a couple I've done:

I'm not sure about VCarve, but you will need to do some major node editing. I used Aspire. Once you get the vectors, you'll need to double them and delete the originals, then extend and cut so you create individuals sections.

Martin, you reminded me of one I started a few years ago, but never finished. I found the picture of the eagle intarsia on the internet and started tracing the vectors. If I remember right, I got the idea based from that post. I'm looking for another project, so maybe I ought to finish it.

Wow! I like this. Intarsia's can be used to create Children's puzzles and at the same time you could be using up all that various scrap pieces of wood that have been cluttering your workshop!

Here is an example using the Nurse Bear Aspirin. I set this up using layers for the different wood species. Of course you would have to create the bear profile pocketed into a board with maybe the profiles of the pieces carved/etched into the bottom of the pocket as a guide for the young one.

I guess a few of us had the same thought. Since my great granddaughter is coming over today for Mother's Day, I thought this would be a great present and also kept me busy the last couple of days.
