cut stl 3d model with vcarve pro

Post by monlover »

HI
I am still using vcarve pro 9.519
As you can see it is a full door, this is how it was downloaded originally, all what I want to do is cut the bottom panel from the original STL file, will be using 5/8 thickness MDF so details would like to be stand brave at least 3/8 high turning everything around it to dust.

Thank you in advance

create a boundary vector for the area you wish to cut

Model file is for a FULL door, and i want only to extract or cut the bottom panel only and have it on a separate file, so i need to select the bottom part only to be carve
the select has to be on the edit modelling level not on the toolpath level.
i can not fine any option on vcarve pro to separate the bottom part. ( cut it out from the plan)
Thx

You can use the Level Clipping feature.

Draw a rectangle around the part you want to carve. Only that portion will carve and be visible in the 3D View.

You cannot physically cut away parts of a model in VCarve (Aspire can of course). But the Level Clipping will yield the end result you’re looking for.

Whoops! I sure missed that, John.

Well, making a Carve Boundary vector (rectangle) is the only solution within that version of the software, Akram. Go with that!

Congratulations on the upgrade. VCP10 is a great upgrade.

Just to clarify, are you looking to keep just the modeling inside the red square or eliminate the modeling inside the red square? I'm just a bit confused.

Hi highpockets
thanks to all of you helping in this great community, keep the modeling inside as you can see, it looks like clipped option is highly successful as you can see at the attached picture.
now I came up with another problem I ran 2, I downloaded some 3D STL files from online grapes files and I would like to carve it to be raised on MDF so I have tried both ways I added a 2D square around the 3D shape but you can tell on one of the files grapes came out with no details at all and the other attachment with not square border, grapes already badly recessed inside the material
what I need to do is border my 3D and turn everything around the 3d into dust, so it comes raised up I'm sure there is a way to do that.
on door case it was already being done on original file and I did only clipping on V10 new option.
is there any help to make this happen thank you in advance

If you want to clear everything around the 3D model, draw a rectangle around the model (slightly smaller than the flat), and another one around the entire door. Select both and use the pocket toolpath to clear with an endmill. You can determine the cut depth of the model by putting your cursor on the 3D preview in the flat area and reading the depth (Z value) at the bottom of your screen.

Be sure to use the same location to set Z0 for the bits. This may require cutting the pocket before the 3D model if the model removes the reference point.
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.

Hi,
thank you, this is what i want to accomplish and it is working but some little problem,
Materiel thickness 3/4, model height 3/8 pocket tool path 3/8 but as you can see at the model level grapes has no base looks good but after tool pah you can see there is very bad base.
i have it zero base height at the model level.
any ideas? Thank you.

Try adding a Zero Plane. Specify “Merge” and assign a thickness amount equal to the amount of the model base you want to “disappear”.

still did not work
i thought maybe something wrong with the file, so i opened another one, still raised base under the model.
please find below my setup may be you can find solution.
Materiel thickness 3/4
model height .375
zero plane height is 0 as height of model base
pocket 3/4 deep
please see attached for setup
Thank you.
