Adding the degree symbol when typing text

Post by Steve Misher »

I tried adding the degree symbol after typing 90 and it shows up in the text edit box, but not on the project.
I am using windows 10 and have version 10.019 of V carve

I use Alt-248. Note: you have to type the "248" on the num pad.

As I don't have a numpad on my keyboard I use the Windows Character map program.

Sounds like the font you're using my not have a degree symbol in it if it's not appearing in the actual text. Try selecting a different font such as Times New Roman. If it appears then the problem is with the font.

Sorry guys, but holding the ALT key and typing 248 does nothing.
I tries truetype fonts and single line fonts
Helvetica as a single line and Times New Roman as a true type

I wouldn't expect it to work with the single line type fonts as I doubt they have all the alternative characters.

No problem for me with Times Roman using the Windows Character map option though.

Make sure you're using the numpad on your keyboard, doesn't work with keys across the top.

Generally easier to do a web search for something like “degree symbol” then copy and paste. Useful for other symbols as well (such as the Japanese Yen sign ¥ or the German eszett ß).

Here, have a free degree symbol:

Code: Select all
