Pocket Problem

Post by pd417 »

Encountered another problem I can't seem to figure out, so again I need to tap upon the vast knowledge of everyone here.

I'm working on an Easter Bunny tray, similar to Michael Tyler's Holiday Snowman tray. The problem I've run into is that when I run the vcarve tool path for the details, it also cuts the pocket even though I isolated the pocket and created it's own tool path. I looked at the Holiday Snowman but can't see how Michael cut just the pocket.

Currently, I'm making the tray out of a single one inch piece of stock, but I may change and do it in two pieces like the snowman.

The file I'm working on is attached. This is a working copy and still needs a lot of fine tuning.

As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.

With time you could transpose the bunny tray to a whole 3D Look.

This is a bit rough but it gives you the idea of what it could look like with some time spent on it!

John....your suggestion worked, thanks!

Sharkcutup....I really like your ideas and since our state imposed a self quarantine, I have a whole lot of time
to work on this project :D
How did you cut the bunny's face?

Once it's done, I'll post a pic in the gallery.

Yes, it could be done with time and a little beefing up a bit (whiskers for example are only about .05 thick). Would possibly break up when carved.

Beefed up Whiskers and cleaned up some areas

It was carved using staged incremental pocketing of certain vectors. Think in increments of thickness .125" .25" .375" .5" .625" .75" .875" 1" (8 incremental pocketed layers of certain vectors in each as an example) It is using those various depths to provide an illusion of 3D.

Added a little more material around entire periphery so that candy dish bottom wall was not so thin. Also used a Box core bit to finish bottom of dished out areas even included the ears for additional candy space. Removed raised areas on ears (I was not happy with that material being there).

I am a little concerned about the Whiskers they may still need a little more beefing up!

I think I will carve one for self now that I have it detailed out!
