An Arc of certain degrees?

Post by Neal Mucklow »

Can anyone tell me how to create an Arc of exactly 240 degrees? Sorry, somewhat of a newbie! Any response is greatly appreciated! Thank you! :D

There may be an easier way than this that I am unaware of.
Draw a circle to the desired diameter and center it
Draw a horizontal line through the center of the circle a little longer than the diameter of the circle.
Copy and paste the line on top of itself
Rotate one of the copies 240 degrees and center it
Use the trim tool to cut away the unwanted portion of the circle
Delete the lines.

There is probably an easier way but this will work.

Steve has given you a very good way to do it.
Here's an alternative:
The Draw Arc tool can't create an arc greater than 180° as I'm sure you figured out. So, create two arcs 120° each and join them.

You could use the numeric input boxes for the polyline tool
1. Job setup 6” x 6”
2. XY location “Center”
3. Create 6” circle, Center in work space
4. Click on “Draw Line” Icon
5. Input as follows.
a. X=-3 Y=0 Click “Add”
b. X=0 Y=0 Click “Add”
c. Angle = -60 Length = 5” Click “Add”
6. Close window
7. Trim Vectors

You guys are great and I appreciate your time and details in responding!

ARC 240 Degrees.png
1.) Draw a circle of 6"
2.) Draw a horizontal Line of 3.5" from center
3.) Highlight line by click on it
4.) Select Circular Copy
5.) X= length of horizontal line y= Leave alone
6.) Input rotation center x=0 y=0
7.) make sure box is checked "Rotate Copies"
8.) number of items = 2
9.) Set "Total Angle"= -240.0
10.) Select Copy
11.) Trim Vectors for your intended arc of 240 degrees

I wonder if arc through 3 points could be used somehow...
