having trouble with table beveled edge

Post by Kevin Crawford »

Hello all,
I have a small conference table I'm making and I need to make a shallow beveled edge under the table. It is proving more difficult than I thought when I started. The table is 81.875" x 41.75" x 1" with 3" radius corners. The table edge leaves 3/8" visible from the side. So the undersides bevel is 5/8" tall x 2.5" deep. I've attached a picture I drafted as an example.
I thought I could use my 3/8" bullnose to mill out the bevel but the molding tool is more complicated than I thought. Can you recommend the best way to accomplish this bevel.
Thanks

Thanks guys,
I knew it can be done but I have no experience with the molding tool yet. I've tied to make the profile and set it in place then ran the pass but don't think I am setting the toolpath position correctly. I don't know what to do with it and the video didn't help much. when I run the pass now, it seems to cut the pass but also a groove at the start for some reason.
I've attached a picture of what I'm getting as well as the file. Thoughts?

Thank you for your help. I was able to get the table cut out tonight. A little sanding and it will look great

Your steps leave quite a bit of sanding. That's not a problem but in future you can make the calculation of more passes for the moulding and less time sanding versus less cnc time and more sanding. There is a sweet spot in there. The moulding function is very useful and will become your friend.
