Frame with Clipart

Post by pierre390 »

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with a clipart 3d tab. I want to make a 3d frame around my piece and I use the circular .25¨ clip art in vcarve pro. My problem is that the corners of the frame overlap, which does not make a correct angle, and I can not find how to make a 45 degree angle at each end of the clipart so that my corner is perfect. Can someone help me find the solution.
Thank you !!

I would use the Extrude and Weave feature. Offset your piece to create the center of the model and create a .25" arc. Great tool.

Using the Extrude and Weave with an arc profile won't give you sharp outside corners. Much better to use the two-Rail Sweep for creating frames with mitered corners (sharp corners inside and outside). Here are 2 tutorials you should watch...

Thank you Jim for your answer.
However I think this tool is available in Aspire but I doubt that I can find it in Vcarve Pro 9.519. What do you think is this possible ???

Sorry Pierre. Both Jim and I mistakenly thought you were using Aspire. No, you do not have the sweep nor extrude features in VCarve products.

Use the Level Vector Clipping
Create 4 separate vectors
Place the .25" round tab on 4 separate levels
Set the Level to Merge
Select the vector associated with a component
Set the check the Clipping on each level

Wow!
Ok John, let me try that and I'll come back to you later. You know I'm still a beginner and I have to take the time to assimilate all that. So thanks and I'll give you some news later.

When I first saw this question I figured that clipping would be the solution but, as I don't have version 10, I couldn't check.

If you are running ver 9.x I expect moulding toolpaths would be the answer.

That is such a clever solution, John! Thanks for sharing.
I need to do a deep dive into this level clipping feature.

Steven, you're right the modeling toolpath would be more efficient for the half round, but with the new Level Vector Clipping in V10 you can do a lot more. If you exchange the half round 3D tab for say a flourish you can get a nice frame.

You'll need to upgrade to 10 to do that though. The version you have at the moment doesn't have that feature.

Adrian is correct, sorry didn't mean to miss lead. I saw the Version 10.018 available notice in your original post I should have looked at your current version.   With that in mind, Steven's suggestion about using the modeling toolpath would be your best option.

A big thank you to all of you for your good advice and I think it's time for me to think about upgrading to version 10.
I did some tests and I realize that if I want to do my piece as it is, I will have no other choice.
Thanks again.
