Hi
I am trying to create a molding 1 1/4 width X 5 1/2 height with beveled edge all way around using a V bit but leaving some thickness around not beveling all way .
can not find any training online showing how to do this.
i tried to use molding tool path but it gets so confusing when highlighting the inside 2 lines ( red color)
thank you in advance.

Re: Bevel edge
1. To use a v-bit, use a profile toolpath, cutting on the outside vector, setting the cut depth to whatever you want the depth to be. This may leave a little shelf on the edge if your v-bit isn't really sharp, so as an alternative you can offset the outside vector a small fraction of an inch and use that vector instead to leave a nice edge on the bevel.
2. To use a moulding toolpath, you will need to use one of the red vectors in your file, and also create a sweep vector with the profile of the bevel. I've attached a file with an example. I replaced both of your red vectors with a vector offset inwards by .25", and created a sweep vector. Note the little tail on the outside of the sweep vector that forces the bit to the end of the profile.

Something like this? Green nodes are the start points.

Re: Bevel edge
For a simple bevel as this, I use a table saw. For me, it's much faster. Sometimes the cnc isn't the best suited tool for the job.

Me too. I guess it would depend on where it's located in the carving.Samson wrote:For a simple bevel as this, I use a table saw. For me, it's much faster. Sometimes the cnc isn't the best suited tool for the job.
