Need help on Carve Desktop

Post by Juansierra »

Can somebody look at my design and tell me what I'm doing wrong. The pockets and the hills are suppose to be the same size, but I can't get them to come out the same.

Thanks: Juan A Sierra

The outer measurements from segment corner to segment corner width in the valleys and surface are within a reasonable spec. The same measurements from the inner section appear to be very uneven. Where do the inserted parts go? The variability of the measurements around circle make the splines different sizes.

This is for jig for segmented wood turning, it help to align the segment for glue up, it take 48 segments to complete a 360 ring at a combine angle of 7.5 degrees. I have been using a large hose clamp to hold the ring together now, but with this jig I won't need the clamp.

gkas is correct your segments are not equal at the base circle.

I rebuilt the vectors so it should work now. Sorry I can't send you a crv file, my version of VCP is older than yours, I had to open the file in Aspire.

I saved the vectors as an eps file.

I created one wedge then replicated it using the Circle Copy tool.

I drew the wheel and started from the center out and made the wedge equal on both sides of the horizontal center line.

Hello Juan,

Here's my take on this problem. I used your tool-paths but made two changes: 1) the profile now cuts outside the line to get a true 16-inch circle; 2) I offset the two circles by 3/16 of an inch when creating the wedges to allow the router bit to clear it's own leftover material creating sharp corners (see images).

That and I put everything in layers for easier selection when creating tool-paths.
