V Carve problem

Post by rayc »

Having now got all my set up correct on my router and vcarving simple text fine, I am now having problems creating text inside a box,or any other type of shape,

This is what I am doing in Vcarve pro.

Create a box, create text, put text inside box.

Go to create tool path, choose material size, choose, cutter(6mm 45deg V) create tool path.

Now the fun starts, what I get is a pocketed toolpath, and what I want is to Vcarve the text and Vcarve the outer line of the box, ?

I can do this with quick engrave but it is not what I want.

Can someone tell me what dumb thing I am doing wrong.

More dumb questions to follow.

Thanks in anticipation

Ray

You can do this, it just needs to be done in two steps.

First carve the text only with Vcarve or pocket and second do a profile cut on the box. (Use the "on" setting)

Hope this helps,
Tim

Hi Tim.

Thanks for the reply.

I had tried to do this but I could not get back to the box profile, I had not used the "on setting" so that is where I went wrong,

New start tomorrow and I will give it a try,

Thanks again Ray

boxed text

Post by coop »

if you would like the text 'raised' and the area around it recessed..
just click on both the text and box using the shift key or drag a selection box around the two the do a simple v carve toolpath...
if you would simply like the text v carved in, then create that toolpath,
then either select one vector for the box and profile with the v bit toolpath "on" or outside
the vector,
or create two boxes about .125in. apart then click on both and do a vcarve
toolpath between ...
i think that covers most of the options
need pics just ask i use those techniques all day long

Hi Ray,

To get clipart from Corel to Vectric is very simple. Just select the clipart and then export it as an EPS file. Once you get to VCarve, import the EPS file.

Be aware that "clipart" comes in two varieties, vector and raster. Vector is what you want. Raster is bitmapped images and as such do not contain any lines. However, Vectric WILL do a trace of bitmaps and make vectors for you. Aren't you glad you bought Vectric?

Good Luck, and let us know if we can give you any other help!

Hi TReischl

Just thought I would let you know all went well with the Coral clipart to Vcarve,

I did get some strange additions to the toolpaths but I node edited them out.

I have posted a photo of my first attempt.

Thanks once again for the excellent response and help
